About Blue Bay Marine Park

Blue Bay Marine Park

Blue Bay Marine Park, located off the southeastern coast of Mauritius, is a protected marine reserve known for its rich coral reefs and diverse underwater ecosystems. Covering an area of approximately 353 hectares, the park safeguards coral communities that are among the most extensive and healthy in the region. The park's clear, warm waters create a thriving environment for over 60 species of coral and numerous fish species, including colorful reef fish, sea turtles, and rays. Established in 1997 to conserve the fragile marine environment, the park is also home to seagrass beds and mangroves that support juvenile fish and other marine organisms. Visitors come to Blue Bay Marine Park primarily for snorkeling and scuba diving, with regulated access to minimize environmental impact while allowing people to experience the underwater beauty. Guided glass-bottom boat tours provide an alternative way to observe marine life without entering the water. In addition to aquatic recreation, the coastal area near the park offers picturesque beaches and small island islets for exploration. The park is managed under the aegis of the Mauritius Ministry of Ocean Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping, focusing on sustainable tourism and conservation education. Its combination of shallow, calm waters and abundant marine life makes Blue Bay Marine Park a prime destination for marine nature enthusiasts and families alike. Conservation efforts continue to address threats such as coral bleaching, pollution, and overfishing to maintain the health and accessibility of this marine sanctuary.
